S-13 REPOWER & AUTOMATION
Client: South Florida Water Management District | Broward County
Pump Station S-13 is an existing 60-year-old structure located within the C-11 Canal in the Town of Davie. The station has three existing pumps that provide important flood control for the area, which must be fully operational during rainy seasons. The work included replacing the existing S-13 pump station engines, refurbishing the gearboxes and pumps, and replacing the station ventilation, fuel system, trash rakes, and bridge crane. The project included the construction of a new CBS generator building, a prefabricated concrete trash rake control building, and a debris storage bin. A new electrical system, including a new service, motor control center, emergency generators, transfer switches, panels, RTU and owner-furnished engine, and station control centers. The existing bypass gate was supplied with new electrical and control equipment. A new structural steel conduit bridge and walkway were constructed, new stilling wells and new sheet pile retaining walls were driven, and an existing portion of the wall was supported with walers and tieback rods. New concrete and asphalt paving were installed. The existing pump station was repaired and painted. This project was completed over several dry and wet seasons, as the station provides primary flood control for the area. All three pumps had to be in place and fully operational during the wet season from June 1 through October 31. As such, the project required careful coordination and numerous sequence plans to assure the owner that the equipment was online when needed.
