NW 87 AVE FROM NW 74 ST TO NW 103 St
Client: FDOT, District 6 | Miami-Dade County
R.J. Behar was responsible for the roadway design, traffic studies, drainage design, signing, pavement markings, signalization, lighting, and overall coordination. The improvements provided a much-needed north-south corridor along western Miami-Dade County. The NW 87th Avenue project included a shared-use bicycle lane, also known as a “sharrow,” which was accomplished by utilizing a 14-foot-wide outside travel lane shared by bicyclists and motorists.
The project included a traffic study to evaluate existing conditions and develop short-range and longer-term improvement alternatives to address identified deficiencies, evaluate the proposed alternatives, and determine the optimal geometrics. Traffic projections, traffic operations, and signal warrants for eight intersections in an area involving three major roadways were also performed. Several improvements were identified that significantly improved operation and safety.
