WEST AVENUE IMPROVEMENTS
Client: City of Miami Beach | Miami-Dade County
Due to the aging water and sewer systems, the existing water mains were replaced with cement-lined 8-inch diameter, minimum, ductile iron pipe (DIP). Pipe size varied from 8 inches minimum to 20 inches. Service lines were 2-inch diameter minimum polyethylene tubing. New fire hydrants were also added to meet fire protection criteria. The City also upgraded the existing sewer systems to improve/eliminate infiltration and inflow. The new sanitary sewers were 8-inch diameter polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sanitary sewer pipes. New manholes were precast, and laterals were replaced to the edge of the right-of-way. Sanitary sewers varied in size from 8 inches to 18 inches in diameter.
As part of the design-build team, R.J. Behar designed and prepared construction plans for new traffic signals to replace the existing ones; prepared the maintenance of traffic plans for all the construction, including the roadways; and designed the water and sewer improvements. RJ Behar also participated in the services during construction, reviewing shop drawings, performing testing inspections, certifying as-built plans to close out permits, and responding to RFIs.
