S-40, S-41, & S-44 GATE REPLACEMENTS & CONCRETE REPAIRS
Client: South Florida Water Management District | Palm Beach County
The project consisted of the design for the fabrication and installation of new stainless steel vertical lift roller gates and frames on all three structures; replacing the existing hydraulic hoist systems with a new cable (rope) drum hoist system for structures S-40 and S-41; furnishing and installing riprap at the embankments for structures S-40, S-41, and S-44; construction of new stilling well platforms; new prefabricated control buildings; and addressing civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical deficien¬cies. The structures are over 50 years old, with corrosion causing sectional loss to the gates. The project included structural modifications to the existing spillways as necessary to accept the new gates and new hoisting systems.
R.J. Behar’s scope included preparing design calculations, studies, plans, specifications, opinions of probable construction costs, the construction schedule, and presentations for briefings and meetings with the district, design review team, and project stakeholders.
